Many Nigerians are travelling during the Yuletide season from one destination to another to spend their holidays and celebrate the Christmas and New year at home.

Recall that, the Federal Government, through the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, introduced an inter-state travel discount initiative for road travellers and 100 percent for train travellers.

Daily News 24 reports that the fee reduction for Nigerians commenced on December 21 and is set to end on January 4, 2024.

Despite the federal government’s recent intervention, many passengers across Nigeria stated they have postponed their intentions to return home for the Christmas and New Year holidays due to a shortage of funds, among other concerns.

In an interview with Daily News 24, the travellers heading to Lagos and Owerri from Kano State have lamented that non-inclusion in the 50 percent discount initiative introduced by the Federal Government. While they do, some travellers to Onitsha in Anambra State express joy as they get some share of the discount.

Mr Ibeh Ndubuisi, Manager God Bless Ezenwata explained how they deal with their passenger immediately they were informed of the inter-state travel discount and the initial discount for travellers.

”The issue of travel discount is 100 percent active, we were informed by the management yesterday and we were also instructed to refund N7000 to the buses in the that have departed before we received the information” He said

”There is 25 per cent discount for easy passenger, a passengers travelling from Kano to Onitsha has a N7, 000 discount from the initial N30, 000 transport fare,” He explained

A passenger Miss Chinyere Anyeku, who is travelling from Kano to Onitsha expressed how the discount was of help.

”This is a welcome development, because yesterday the actual amount paid was N30,200 and and today we are paying N23,000. At least, the discount I have gotten from the tickets of 4 seat would be of help in one way or the other,”

Another passenger, Mr Paul Ojo travelling from Kano to Lagos said he brought a ticket from SD motors.

”There is no discount at all, I bought a ticket at N25,000. This is because SD motors are not included among the companies that render the inter-state travel discount for travellers,”

I came very early this morning and I discovered that about 3 to 4 vehicles of Ezewata has departed but for the SD motors even one of our vehicles have not departed yet,”
