An 8-year-old cancer patient, Asma’u Sani, who caught the attention of Kano state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on social media, seeking N1.5 million assistance has died.

Daily News 24 reports that little Asma’u died on Wednesday at the National Orthopedic Hospital Dala, where she was receiving treatment.

After her plight caught the attention of Governor Yusuf, he visited her at the hospital where he took over all her medical bills.

Little Asma’u had been diagnosed with cancer of the right tibia and was receiving chemotherapy and other treatments at the Orthopedic hospital.

When the governor learnt of the girl’s plight, he had announced a donation of N1.5 million on his verified Facebook page after visiting he and other patients at the hospital.

The young cancer patient had been advised to undergo amputation for her right leg due to her condition.

Governor Yusuf had also initiated the process of transferring the cancer patient to India, where she was expected to receive superior medical treatment.

Last month, after Mr Yusuf returned from Abuja, three days following the Appeal Court judgement that removed him from power, he first visited little Asma’u before proceeding to the Kano Government House.

“On my return to Kano last night, I visited my little friend, Asma’u Sani, as she continues to convalesce before her departure to India for further treatment.

“I was happy to see her in a much improved condition, and I extend my gratitude to the medical team for their constant support for her and the parents. – AKY,” the governor had wrote on his official X account.

On Wednesday, Governor Yusuf expressed sadness over the passing of the little girl, who he had described as a friend.

“I’m deeply saddened to learn of Asmau’s passing, this morning. May the Almighty Allah grant her Jannatul Firdaus. And may the family and all of us get the fortitude to bear her loss. – AKY,” Mr Yusuf wrote.
