The League of Northern Democrats (LND), led by its Chairman and former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has set conditions for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform bills currently under review in the National Assembly.

Speaking at a public event in Abuja, Shekarau stressed the need to address issues raised by a technical committee established to evaluate the proposed bills. According to him, the committee’s findings highlight socio-cultural and governance challenges that could have significant consequences if ignored.

“The LND views the proposed tax reform bills as an opportunity to advance Nigeria’s economic stability while addressing constitutional, socio-cultural, and governance concerns,” Shekarau said.

He called for comprehensive amendments to the bills to ensure inclusivity, promote national cohesion, and guarantee equitable resource distribution.

The LND’s stance and recommendations are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the ongoing tax reform debate in the National Assembly.
