The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command said operatives engaged robbers in a gun battle early Friday morning.

A statement by Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh noted that stolen vehicles and other items were recovered.

The police, at about 2 a.m., responded to a distress call from Kapuwa in the Lugbe area of Abuja.

The Lugbe Division officers were informed that a 15-man gang was operating within a compound.

Adeh said tactical and intelligence assets were deployed to the scene.

Operatives arrived after the robbers had removed personal effects from the said house and were on the run.

“The criminals engaged them in a gun duel but couldn’t match up with the superior firepower.

“They retreated with various degrees of injuries while the Police recovered every single effect initially removed,” she said.

A Honda Accord with reg BWR778BK, a Peugeot 307 with reg MKA496BC, five televisions, eight pairs of shoes and clothes were retrieved.

Others include one laptop, four ATM cards, one iPad, one play station, two gaming pads and one Apple wrist watch.

Commissioner of Police, Babaji Sunday assured residents of a revamped security architecture and an unflinching commitment to safeguard the FCT.
