Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, will on Thursday commence the third phase of pension payments, amounting to N5 billion, as part of efforts to ease the hardships faced by retirees.

This was disclosed in a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Tofa, on Wednesday. He noted that the payment ceremony would take place at the Government House, Kano.

The statement highlighted Yusuf’s earlier steps to address the issue of unpaid pensions. “Since assuming office, the current administration has settled not less than N11 billion out of the unpaid backlog of N43 billion in outstanding pension benefits in two phases,” it read.

The first phase involved the allocation of N6 billion to the state Pension Trust Fund for retirees below grade level 10, while another N5 billion was released during the second phase to cater to retirees who served the state for 35 years.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring that all outstanding pension benefits are cleared. He assured retirees, “Each retiree will receive their dues in the nick of time.”
