The Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Dr Shehu Muhammad on Thursday, inaugurated the Management Board of Kaduna Capital School, with Sheik Ahmad Gumi and Daily Trust Cartoonist, Alhaji Mustapha Bulama, as members.
Muhammad explained at the event in Kaduna that members of the board were carefully selected because of their proven integrity, experience, competence, sense of responsibility and contributions in various works of life, particularly in education.
He said that the 14-member board would be chaired by Alhaji Abubakar Tanko, a former principal of the school.
He listed other members as Malam Ja’afaru Abdu, Jibrin Muhammad, Ibrahim Muhammad, Mrs Samaniya  Dada, and Director Public Schools, Ministry of Education, Habibu Alhassan.
Others, he said included Abdulhameed Usman, Hajiya Rabi Saulawa, Muhammad Shuaibu, Hajiya Jamila Garba, Muktar Baloni and Alhaji Sale Ashafa.
The commissioner said that the board was established to engender community’s interest in schools located in their localities, to promote ownership and sustainability.
“They will also provide the mechanism for more effective management at school level, provide the Head-Teacher and Principal with various forms of support to enhance the administration of the school.
“The board will also provide a platform on which the community and school would put resources together to enrich the school and provide a mechanism for community members to demand for accountability from school managers.
“The board members will also help the school in formulation of mission statement and articulation of its vision and provide a legal framework for involving all stakeholders in planning, monitoring, and evaluation of education at the school level.”
The commissioner also said that the board would develop and update the School Development Plan on annual and long-term basis and monitor teachers’ attendance.
He said it would advise the school authority on teachers’ behaviour and commitment to work and mobilise resources to support school development, among other tasks.
Muhammed recalled that the school was established in 1957 as a boarding primary school to strengthen basic education, while the secondary school section was introduced in 1981.
Responding, Tanko, the Chairman of the board, thanked the state government for the opportunity to serve and contribute their quota to the development of the school.
Tanko pledged that the board would ensure that teachers were provided with all that they require to teach effectively, while students would have all they need to learn. (NAN)
