Kano State Commissioner for Education, Umar Haruna Doguwa, has issued a stern warning to contractors overseeing the construction of four bilingual colleges in the state.
He emphasized the need for timely project completion to meet the November 2023 deadline.
The Commissioner expressed that this urgency was essential for the state to access additional funds for development from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
The IsDB had recently granted a financial facility to support bilingual education in select states across Nigeria, including Kano.
This support aims to bridge the gap between formal and informal education in the country and facilitate the implementation of the bilingual education program.
Additionally, it will aid the government in integrating and modernizing Almajirai and Tsangaya schools.During a visit to the Sabon Garin Doguwa site, Umar Haruna Doguwa expressed concern over the slow progress of the project due to inadequate human and material resources.
He urged the contractor to fully mobilize to the site, secure the college compound with a fence for enhanced security, and accelerate the pace and improve the quality of the work.
Meanwhile, at the Kiru bilingual college site in Kiru local government area, the Commissioner was pleased with the progress made.
He praised the contractor’s commitment and assured him of the state Ministry of Education’s support to meet the project’s schedule.
To address any potential obstacles hindering prompt project completion, the Commissioner instructed the director in charge of Physical Planning at the Ministry of Education to convene a meeting with contractors and other key stakeholders on Thursday.
Alh. Umar Doguwa conveyed his optimism that with collective efforts and adherence to the set timeline, the state would benefit from the IsDB’s support, enhancing the educational landscape and opportunities for the students of Kano.
“We are committed to providing all necessary support to finish the work on or before schedule,” he declared.
