The internal crisis within the New Nigeria Peopleโ€™s Party (NNPP) in Kano State escalated on Sunday as two prominent members severed ties with the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

This development unfolds amid efforts by the movement to rally support for its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The departing members, Aliyu Sani Madaki, who represents Kano Municipal and serves as Deputy Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, and Alhassan Rurum, representing Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure, were previously close allies of the former governor.

Speaking to his constituents in Kano, Madakin Gini expressed his decision to leave the movement. โ€œFrom today, I, Aliyu Sani Madaki, no longer associate with the Kwankwasiyya Movement,โ€ he announced. He went on to accuse the movement of belittling him and his colleagueโ€™s influence.

โ€œThey have dismissed us, saying we lack support, but we are not afraid to stand alone. Let it be knownโ€”there is no one I cannot confront in the Kwankwasiyya Movement from top to bottom, if needed,โ€ he stated.

He alleged that political forces within Kwankwasiyya were actively working to undermine the incumbent governor, Abba Yusuf. โ€œMy message to the governor is clear. They are trying to weaken him,โ€ Madakin Gini claimed. He warned Governor Yusuf to remain vigilant.

โ€œI am urging him to stand firm; otherwise, he may be blindsided by those around him. I have insights into plans against him,โ€ he cautioned.

This latest fallout highlights the growing tensions within the NNPP as the party navigates its internal dynamics ahead of the upcoming election.
