Residents of Kano state have expressed their frustration over the high cost of petrol refined locally by Dangote Refinery.
On Monday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) released a chart which shows various prices of petrol from Dangote Refinery for different parts of the country.
According to the chart, the product is expected to sell for N950 per liter in Lagos, N1019 in Borno, N960 in Sokoto and N999 in Kano.

Daily News 24 reports that petrol now sells for approximately N1,200 per liter in filling stations across the state, a sharp increase from the previous N800-N1,000 range when fuel was imported.
Many had hoped that local refinement would ease the burden, but instead, the situation has worsened, according to consumers.
Yusuf Abubakar, a tricycle driver, lamented the skyrocketing fuel prices, stating, “I was hoping for a decrease in price, but it has become even worse. It is now more difficult to earn a living with these high prices.”
Similarly, Sabo Haruna, a local barber, shared how the fuel price hike has drastically reduced his customer base. “Before, I got about 20 customers a day, but today I’ve only seen three people,” he said.
Despite the resumption of schools in Kano, many students failed to attend due to the high transportation costs driven by the fuel hike.
It was gathered that parents are struggling to afford the increased fares, further straining household finances.
In addition, many fuel stations remain closed, making it even harder for commuters to find fuel, exacerbating the frustrations of residents who are grappling with the soaring cost of living.
Earlier, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) stated that it purchased fuel from the Dangote refinery at N898 per liter. However, Dangote denied the claim, describing the statement as “misleading and mischievous.”
