The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, stated on Friday that Kano State suffered the most from the violence that erupted during the protests against bad governance.
Speaking at the Kofar Kudu palace, he condemned the violence, which resulted in loss of lives, injuries, and property destruction, calling it a major setback for the state.

“Today is a sad day for the people of Kano as we reflect over the events of yesterday. The violence of yesterday was what scholars and leaders kept warning against the possibility that miscreants and agents of destruction would hijack peaceful demonstrations and use that opportunity to cause mayhem which led to loss of lives and destruction of properties and injuries to countless people,” Sanusi said.
He highlighted the damage caused, including the destruction of a printing press and the vandalism of the Digital Centre of Excellence built by the Nigerian Communications Commission. Sanusi urged the protesters to stop the violence and not to be deceived into continuing the mayhem.
“Any violence in Kano only hurts Kano, it hurts innocent people. The young people who died are our children, the properties that was burnt and stolen belongs to the people of Kano,” he stated.
Sanusi called on parents, ward heads, district heads, and imams to advise the youth against violence, emphasizing that it only sets the state back. He prayed for mercy for the deceased, restoration of wealth for those looted or vandalized, and quick recovery for the injured.
“We calm on the people to maintain the peace, to cooperate with security agencies, to report any suspicious activity,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, called for peace, calm, patience, and continuous prayers to address the nation’s economic challenges. Receiving a letter of demands from the Kano Coalition for Peace Ambassadors, he emphasized dialogue as essential for resolving issues and assured that their concerns would be addressed.
