The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that the Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State has officially commenced crude oil processing.
The confirmation came from the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, Femi Soneye, who described the development as a significant milestone for Nigeria’s energy sector.

“Today marks a monumental achievement for Nigeria as the Port Harcourt Refinery officially commences crude oil processing,” Soneye stated on Tuesday. “This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation.”
He revealed that the refinery is operating at 60 percent capacity, processing 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day (bpd). Soneye commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari for their dedication to the project.
“Hearty congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and the exceptional leadership of GCEO Mele Kyari for their unwavering commitment to this transformative project. Together, we are reshaping Nigeria’s energy future!” he said.
In addition to crude oil processing, Soneye noted that truck loading would commence immediately, and efforts were underway to restore operations at the Warri Refinery in the near future.
