The Rivers State Police Command has detained three female officers over allegations of extorting motorists under the Rumuokoro Flyover in Port Harcourtโ€™s Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The officers, identified as Inspector Sarah Anendei, Inspector Caroline Promise, and Inspector Christiana Jatau, reportedly operated from an unauthorized checkpoint and engaged in unlawful activities.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrests, noting that the command had been tracking the officers after receiving reports about their actions. Iringe-Koko disclosed, โ€œThe Rivers State Police Command has arrested three of its officers following a coordinated monitoring patrol by the CP Monitoring Unit on October 29, 2024.

The operation, conducted around 3 pm, led to the arrest of Inspectors Sarah Anendei, Caroline Promise, and Christiana Jatau for engaging in corrupt practices under the Flyover.โ€

She further explained that Inspectors Promise and Jatau were out of uniform during the arrest, a breach of police protocol. โ€œTheir misconduct was captured on video by a mobile phone, providing clear evidence of their actions,โ€ Iringe-Koko added. The officers were searched on the spot, and money allegedly extorted from motorists was recovered.

The three officers are now in detention, awaiting disciplinary action. โ€œThe Rivers State Police Command reaffirms its commitment to professional integrity and assures the public that any personnel found violating the principles of service will be held accountable,โ€ Iringe-Koko emphasized.
