A member representing Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, Tajudeen Abbas, has emerged Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives with a landslide victory.

Abbas polled 353 votes to defeat former Deputy Speaker Ahmed Idris Wase and Aminu Sani Jaji, who got 3 votes each.

DailyNews24 reports that the result was announced by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Magaji Tambuwal.

He said 359 members-elect voted during the exercise.

Recall that there were three contestants in the race, with the winner expected, defeating the others by a simple majority.

Tajudeen Abass from Kaduna State is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the presidency, while other contenders are Ahmed Idris Wase and Aminu Sani Jaji, who are also members of the APC.

A significant majority of the members-elect have “openly declared” their votes for Abbas.

Earlier, Muktar Betara, Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, Miriam Onuoha, and Sada Soli, aspirants for the Speakership, all stepped down for the APC consensus candidate.

Abbas polled 353 votes to defeat the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the defunct 9th House, Ahmed Idris Wase (APC,Plateau) and Aminu Sani Jaji (APC, Zamfara), who got 3 votes each.

Before the commencement of voting, Abbas was nominated by the immediate past House Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and seconded by Nnolim Nnaji.

Tijjani Kayode Ismail nominated former Deputy Speaker of the defunct 9th Assembly, Ahmed Idris Wase, and his nomination was seconded by Mohammed Ari Abdulmumin.

Ahmed Yusuf Ibrahim Doro nominated Aminu Sani Jaji, who was seconded by Mohammed Aminu Ibrahim.
