The police on Friday arraigned a 30-year-old man, Oscar Akpan, before an Ajah Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly defrauding a car buyer of N1,300,000.

Akpan, who is facing two counts of obtaining under false pretences and stealing, was said to have absconded with the money.

He was arraigned after the police apprehended him.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Chinedu Njoku, said the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum from the complainant, Blessing Sunday, with a promise to supply her with a Volkswagen T4 car.

He said the incident happened on October 30, 2022, on Jakande Estate in the Lekki area of the state.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him by the police.

Consequently, Magistrate O. M. Daramola granted him bail in the sum of N 300,000, with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate adjourned the case till January 9, 2023, for mention.
