A housewife, Maryam Ibrahim, has approached a Grade I Area Court, Kubwa, seeking the dissolution of her marriage to her husband, Ahmed Mohammed, for lack of love.

Mrs Ibrahim told the court that she married Mohammed, a civil servant in 2003 according to Islamic Personal Law and were blessed with four children.

“There has been no consummation between my husband and I for nine months and he does not take care of our children.

“He left the house in 2020 for seven months and in December 2021 he was away for 10 months saying that I was going to kill him,” she said.

Mrs Ibrahim urged the court to dissolve the marriage on the grounds of lack of love as well as order the husband to take responsibility of their four children.

Mr Mohammed in his response said that Ibrahim had brought various applications to the court for divorce and but that she cannot separate him from his children.

“I appeal to the court to grant her application, but she should be the person to leave my house and leave my children for me, my youngest child is almost 10 years old.

“They all stay in my property which I spent a lot to build, she should leave the house,” he said.

The judge, Muhammad Adamu, however, said that divorce cannot be granted with conditions stated by the respondent.

Mr Adamu said it is after divorce is granted that either of the parties can approach the court for custody of the children.

He advised the couple to sit and reach an agreement on what they wanted regarding their family and adjourned the matter until Oct.24 for hearing.
