The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) says it has arrested two suspects in possession of 173 parcels of Cannabis Savita (Indian hemp) in Katsina state.

The NSCDC spokesperson of Katsina Command, DSC Mohammed Tukur disclosed this while handing over the suspects and the exhibit to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Tuesday.

Tukur said the arrest followed a tipoff the command received and immediately swung into action and arrested the suspects and recovered the exhibits on July 6, 2021 at about 7:30 p.m.

He explained that the suspects included Mr. Sunday Issac, 50, who escorted the exhibits from Zaria, in Kaduna State to their destination in Daura, Katsina State.

Tukur added that: “the exhibit was conveyed all the way from Lagos State in a trailer carrying fish, belonging to a fish dealer in Katsina.

“The driver and his conductor picked up Isaac at Zaria, who was to hand over the drugs in Daura.

“But unfortunately for them, Isaac and the conductor were arrested together with the exhibit within the city of Katsina by our operators, while the trailer driver ran away.

“The driver is the third suspect, and we are still searching for him to face the consequences of his act. And the trailer is presently under our custody,” he said.

Isaac told reporters that he was arrested with the exhibit while on their way to Daura where the owner will receive, adding that he will be paid N50, 000 after delivery.

The conductor, Salisu Hamisu said that he had informed the driver that it was an exhibit they were carrying, but the driver asked what was his business with the load.
