A group under the auspices of the Center for Peace Advancement and Socio-Economic Development (CPAED) has said over 10,000 Nigerians had been killed in clashes between ethno-religious conflicts from 1999 to 2021.

The group coordinator, Mrs Obiora Jane, disclosed this during an awareness campaign to mark International day of peace held in Kaduna yesterday.

The surge of hatred, discrimination, and the decade of conflicts have degenerated interactions among diverse people across religiously and ethnically lines.

She added that worried by this ugly situation, CPAED launched awareness-raising on the importance of peace and living together to achieve more equitable, more just, inclusive, healthier, and sustainable communities.

Mrs Obiora explained that the
peace education sensitises the general public on the consequences of violence and the ability to recover better for development.

“On this day, we reiterate the importance of peace and remind ourselves that we are not enemies but brothers from one creator-God.

“We must tolerate each other and live in peace. The youth must shun violence and not allow it to be used to perpetuate conflict.

“The Government should put adequate security measures to stop the killings in Kaduna state and Nigeria at large.

“It is our collective responsibility to impart knowledge and skills of peace building to the people.” She said.
