300-level Linguistics student of Adekunle Ajasin University, identified only as Emmanuel, was shot and killed by gunmen on Sunday night at 9:30 pm in a private student hostel in Akungba Akoko.
A student, who wished to remain anonymous, disclosed to our correspondent, “It happened last night, the victim was shot while on his bed, in his room.”

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Odunlami Ibukun, confirmed through a telephone interview that the police were informed and are currently investigating the incident. Ibukun stated, “It was reported to the police, and they had to go to the crime scene. The investigation is ongoing.”
Reacting to the incident, the Vice Chairman of the National Association of Universities Students, Comrade Oladele Emmanuel, called on security agencies and the university management to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. “The motive behind the killing is yet to be identified,” he said. “However, the university community must be reassured that such a tragic event will be met with the full force of the law and diligent investigative efforts.”
Comrade Emmanuel described the death of the student as a devastating loss for his family, friends, and the entire Adekunle Ajasin University community. “His potential and contributions to our shared academic environment are irreplaceable. We mourn his untimely departure and extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.”
In response to the tragedy, the NAUS Vice Chairman urged the university management to enhance security measures on and around the campus. He recommended increasing security patrols, providing better lighting, and ensuring more accessible emergency services.
“We trust that the authorities will act with urgency and transparency in addressing this incident. Emmanuel’s memory deserves nothing less than our commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served.”
He emphasized the need for the AAUA community to unite in their grief and work towards creating a safer, more secure environment for all. “We owe it to Emmanuel, his family, and ourselves to ensure such a tragedy does not occur again,” he added.
