Court of Appeal Kano division, presided by Hon. Justice Habeeb Abiru JCA has affirmed the judgement of the High Court of Justice Jigawa State, where one Mummuni Tukur (Appellant) was convicted for the offences of Rape and Armed Robbery.

The judgement of the High Court was delivered by Jigawa State Chief Judge, Justice Umar Maigari Sadiq.

During the trial, the appellant was charged under sections 298(b), and 283 of the Penal Code Laws of Jigawa State, 2012 for the offence of Rape and Armed Robbery, and at the end of the trial, the appellant was found guilty of the offences and was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment.

The facts of the case were that Mummuni Tukur (Appellant) had waylaid a woman (name withheld) where he robbed and raped her at a bush called Shuga Bush in Kirkasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The appellant was apprehended by a good Samaritan and took to the village head, which was later handed over to the police for investigation.

Mummuni confessed to having committed the offences when the Police interrogated him.

The Appeal Court Judge Justice Habeeb Abiru JCA dismissed the appeal as it lacks merit and affirmed the trial court’s judgment.
