Kano state Commissioner of Education, Malam Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru, has directed all the Principals/ Directors of Secondary Schools to establish Orchards Gardens in their schools.
He gave the directives while delivering a keynote address during the launching ceremony of the Giving Tree to schools Project organized by the Give Free Africa in Collaboration with Dala Old Girls Alumni Association at GGC Dala, Today.
The commissioner also approved the establishment of a young farmers club in all secondary schools of the state.
He explained that if fully utilized, the two projects will encourage the upcoming youth to inculcate the habit of naturing trees and other economic plants to make the society worthy of living.
The Commissioner, who appreciates the foresight of the Give Free Africa in bringing the project to GGC Dala, call on the project to extend its kind gesture to all secondary schools in the state.
He then expressed the readiness of the Ministry of Education to continue to support important programmes of this nature.
In a related development, the commissioner has unveiled the plan of the Kano State Government for the establishment of Girls ICT Schools intending to boost the level of ICT in the state.
He added that the ICT School, which is about to be established, would focus its attention fully on ICT subjects from JSS1 to SS3.
Commissioner Kiru stressed that the ICT School, which will be one of its kind in northern Nigeria, is also aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship to the teaming Kano female students, thereby resulting in self-reliance.
