The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, mni, has told men and women of the service’s junior personnel to shun all acts of misconduct capable of jeopardizing the security of the custodial centres.

CG Nababa, represented by the Assistant Comptroller General, Lawal Audu Gusau, advised the passing out parade ceremony of the 233rd Batch ‘B’ Basic recruit course held at the correction service training school in Kaduna.

He explained at the occasion that the basic recruit course is a mandatory training specifically for fresh intakes into the service and was designed to mould the personality, character and psyche in line with all the tenants of the paramilitary outfit, therefore charged the three hundred (300) Junior personel to live up to their responsibilities nothing short of excellent.

“I am delighted and honoured today on the occasion of the Basic recruit course passing out parade. This marks another milestone in the history of this training as well as the NCoS in general.

May I seize this opportunity to congratulate you for your endurance, perseverance, and good conduct exhibited during this training period. You have sacrificed your leisure and convenience to undertake this onerous task. You should be ready to do more as you begin the journey into your career as correctional officers. No sacrifice is too great in rendering service to our dear country.”

Continuing, “The service under my headship is presently taking stock and on a mission of self-appraisal. Therefore, there is zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct. Any act of indiscipline, disloyalty, disobedience to constituted authority and insubordination will be decisively dealt with.

“As you proceed to your stations. You are advised to distinguish yourselves, uphold discipline and be professional in the discharge of your duties. You must shun all acts of misconduct capable of jeopardizing the security of our custodial centres”, he stressed.

Nababa emphasized the new intake should be guided by the established channels of communication regarding official matters and even expression of grievance so as not to take laws into their hands.

He commended the brain behind the success of the day, that despite the numerous challenges in administering the institution, they were able to excel.

“Let me commend our training institutions, the Commandant; Directing staff, as well as an instructor for their efforts so far in adapting their new curriculum and training to contemporary realities of the current Nigerian correctional service Act 2019, which mandated us to implement both custodial and non-custodial measures today.”

Your passing out is coming at a time when we are consolidating on the gains of several years of serious reforms of the past administration”, he noted

Consequently, he also appreciates dc President Muhammadu Buhari and his Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, for their relentless support geared toward the success of the training.

The passing out parade featured awards presentations to 9(nine) graduands who have excelled in academics, drill and leadership, respectively.

The 300 graduands of the Junior Personnel of Nigerian correctional service had come from various commands for the 6 months Basic recruit course, which commenced on the 4th January 2021.
