On Friday, some residents of Kano commended the state government’s efforts for the speedy evacuation of waste accumulated during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

The residents, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent in Kano, said the effort was laudable because of the rainy season.

Mr Mukhtar Abdulkadir of Unguwar Bello area of Gwale said that vehicles collecting wastes were seen busy evacuating garbages before and during the Eid activities.

Another resident, Mr Usman Buffalo, of Janbulo quarters in the Gwale area, said that some years back, evacuation of remnants of waste accumulated during Sallah took a long time.

According to him, the government tried this year and deserved commendation because waste evacuation vehicles were seen doing the needful in many parts of the state during the festivities.

He appealed to the government to sustain the tempo, just as he urged residents to complement the government’s efforts for a cleaner environment.

Mrs Maryam Hamisu, a businesswoman in Kano, also commended the government for the waste evacuation, saying that the authorities had done their best.

“The impact of the evacuation was visible because, in the past, most wastes generated during Eid hang around for many days,” she observed.

Eid-el-Kabir was marked Tuesday and Wednesday across the globe.

It is a period when heaps of waste accumulate due to the slaughtering of animals used for sacrifice. (NAN)
