The All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government, Universal Basic Education Projects Inspection Team, has lauded the current administration’s performance in developing basic education in the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration’s performance in the development of basic education in the country.

Dr Tom Ohikere,  the Team Leader of the group, made the commendation shortly after conducting an assessment tour of Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Friday in Abuja.

He said that the group was a core media support group of the APC, officially mandated to the activities, achievements and milestones of the party’s led Federal Government.

According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is accelerating the much-needed pace of giving the Nigerian child a world-class education “that is scientifically driven”.

Ohikere said that the group, in collaboration with the UBEB, had embarked on a national tour on the Federal Government/ UBEB  projects across the APC controlled states.

“This is to enable us to identify, document, authenticate and publicise the party’s achievements in the area of basic education.

“We have visited Kebbi, Kaduna, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Nasarawa states and the FCT.

“The emanating results so far indicate that APC is performing extremely well in the development of basic education in the country, ” he said.

He said that the assessment of UBEB projects in the FCT showed the amazing commitment of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to improving basic education facilities.

According to him, the FCT all-girls school, aimed at meeting one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the girl-child education, which is a key sentiment in modern times,  has been greatly improved upon by the FCTA.

“However, the projects are still attracting some attention because we noticed that there are ongoing projects in the school.

“Similarly, the rehabilitation of facilities at Junior Secondary School Kado Kuchi and the construction of classrooms at the nomadic school to serve the underserved communities, to get quality education, is worthy of commendation.

“Furthermore, the amazing initiative of the APC- led administration in establishing Smart Schools tagged;  Model 1 Schools, also deserve commendation.

“The FCT Model 1 Schools projects, which is a UBEC direct intervention, was above 50 per cent completion at Karshi satellite community in the FCT,” he said.

He explained that the FCT Model 1 Schools, which had four components of Pre-Primary, Primary and Junior Secondary School and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unit, was the largest.

“We observed that the ratio of two toilet facilities per each classroom in the FCT is first of its kind among the states we have visited.

“This will enhance proper hygiene among primary school children and discouraged open defecation,” he said.

Responding, Dr Alhassan Sule, Executive Chairman,  the FCT UBEB,  restated the commitment of the board to implement the policies of President Buhari’s administration through the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello.

According to him, the only thing that can enhance the nation’s fortune remained quality education, adding that the FCT minister had given the board all its needs to ensure the implementation of  APC’s policies down to the grassroots.

“This is to ensure that every child of school age resident in the FCT gets a quality education, which means the capacity of the people leading this school has to be improved through training.

“We also want to ensure that we establish more schools so that many children will have access to education, but some communities have to trek far distance to access education,” he noted. (NAN)
