The Kano Government is committed to finding a lasting solution to environmental challenges by adopting best land management practices in the state.

The Commissioner for Environment Dr Kabiru Ibrahim-Getso, made this known while receiving members of the Environmental Management Association of Nigeria (EMAN), Kano- Jigawa branch who paid him a visit.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Sunusi Abdullahi, in Kano on Wednesday.

”The state government exhibited this commitment in embarking on projects that have direct bearing to the transformation of the state and improve climate condition such as construction, clearance of drainage systems, evacuation of refuse, planting of two million seedlings in 2020.

“The State Government also forwarded a proposed pollution control, forestry bills and transformation of NEWMAP project to an agency among others to the State Assembly for ascertaining”, he said in the statement.

Ibrahim-Getso said that the State Government is planning to plant another one million seedlings, in its effort to address the challenges of climate change.

He promised to continue working with environmental experts in order to check environmental degradation.

The commissioner commended EMAN for choosing Kano for their annual conference.

Earlier, the Chairman of EMAN, Kano- Jigawa branch, Dr Luka-Fito Buba, said members of the association were in Kano for their annual conference which opens on Wednesday. (NAN)
