Volleyball: NVBF board member offers scholarships to five young players in Niger state

A Board Member of the Nigerian Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Maj.-Gen. Taritimiye Gagariga, on Thursday in Abuja announced the offer of scholarships to young players in Niger state to support them in their education.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the five young players received the awards after their exceptional display at the Kotangora Volleyball Challenge Competition in Kontagora, Niger State.

Gagariga said his passion is to give young players a bright future to play the sports and to enjoy their education without financial hindrance.

The general emphasized that the relevance of education in one’s career can never be overemphasized as it touches every aspect of one’s life, including learning to play the game of volleyball.

“I am urging all junior players to take their education with all seriousness as it will project their image.

“I want to re-assure you all of my unrelenting support to your educational pursuits.

“The award was organized and conducted to inculcate the desire for education to the participants while developing and improving their chosen career as Volleyball players,” he said.

Gagariga who is also the Commander, Corps of Artillery, stated that two players who emerged best Libero will be sponsored throughout their secondary school up to their WAEC, NECO and JAMB examinations.

NAN reports that the five young players who will benefit from the scholarships are Abbas Ibrahim from Defense Spikers of Abuja, Destiny Ayuba from Vulcan Volleyball Club of Kotangora, Mary Anebi, Martha Anebi and Blessing Anebi, all from Scorpion Spikers, Abuja

The army general added that the students will be sponsored throughout their secondary school up to their WAEC, NECO and JAMB examinations.

NAN reports that the grassroots Education Foundation Scholarship Awards began December 2020 in the Nigerian Army School of Artillery, Kachia, for which the then Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, presented a cheque for the sum of N636,000 to Master Abubakar Mohammed of G-RANK Spikers.
