Sen. Hezekiah Dimka (APC/Plateau Central) has trained over 1000 youths and women in his constituency on entrepreneurial skills and empowered them with take-off grants.
This is contained in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr Katdapba Gobum, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Jos.
According to the statement, the beneficiaries were trained on livestock, potato and rice production and processing.
“Grants were provided for the trained youth in order to engage the markets for meaningful contribution to the economy and subsequent improvements in their well-being.
“It is the senator’s belief that the training of youth and women within the zone will help them to acquire skills for personal development as well as effective functioning in their respective communities.
“This helped to ensure that women and youth in the zone are able to take ownership of their lives.
“This has gone a long way in reducing the menace of crime, unemployment, poverty, drug and substance abuse, thereby ensuring a safe, healthy and prosperous society,” it said.
It said that those trained were given materials to enable them to be self-reliant and financially independent.
Some of the empowerment items distributed, the statement further disclosed, include; Tricycles (Keke-Napep), sewing machines, grinding machines, water pumping machines and Knapsack sprayers.
A comprehensive list of the beneficiaries showed that a minimum of 83 persons in each of the five local governments that make up the senatorial district got the items. (NAN)
