Residents of Gogel locality in Warawa Local Government Area (LGA) in Kano State have decried the unavailability of cellular network, they are pleading with the government and relevant stakeholders to intervene in their situation.

The residents revealed to Daily News 24 that they have to walk several kilometers in order to access mobile network just to make phone calls, an exercise they described as frustrating. Gogel is among the 15 wards of Warawa LGA.

They lamented the level in which, communication between individuals in the locality had been strained.

Just like the olden days, they now have to  communicate face-to-face to pass information to themselves. Asides a person-to-person communication they also send children to deliver messages on behalf of parents or elder relatives.

Daisa Adu a resident of Gogel explained that it was very infuriating anytime he had to use his motorbike to travel about 2 kilometers away from his ward just to access mobile network.

According to him, if it becomes necessary to make multiple calls in a day, he has to keep visiting neighboring areas in search of mobile network. In situations where his bike isn’t fueled, he simply has to trek the distance.

“When I want to communicate with my relatives, I have to use my motorbike to travel about 2 or 3 kilometers before i can access mobile network.

“Sometimes when i am expecting a call at a certain time, I have to go far away and await my call. It is very annoying when people are trying to reach me and my number isn’t going through.

“I have to go as far as Zogarawa or Makole to access mobile network. If i want to access a standard network with no hitches, I have to get close to Warawa LGA secretariat so as to get an uninterrupted and smooth network. All my three lines are inaccessible anytime i am here. He explained.

Another resident Junaidu Wada said their lives in Gogel said that although they have been promised mobile network several times by service providers who visited the community long ago, they still use manual means of communication which is tiring.

“To be sincere, this unavailability of mobile network has affected our businesses, and the way we interact with ourselves in this locality.

”I am pleading to the network providers and other stakeholders to see that network becomes accessible to the residents in this locality, may God help us all.” Wada said.

For Rabilu Yahaya, he has to trek about one kilometer to access a hilly place where he usually gets to mobile network.

Some days he has to keep walking as far as he can before he accesses mobile network. On other days, he walks towards rocks and tries his luck in gaining access network.

“I have been doing this for a long time and i have to keep doing this as far as i want to make a call, or when someone wants to call me. Whenever I have an appointment with anyone, I usually give them a time to call me, when I’m sure I can have access to mobile network.” He told Daily News24

As residents of Gogel Ward remain hopeful of better days, they have to keep utilizing the old methods of communication because is a necessity.
