Kano State Fire Service says it has rescued two men, while one was confirmed dead, following fire explosion at an engine oil processing plant in Gezawa Local Government Area of the state.
This is contained in a statement issued by Public Relations Officer of the service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on Monday in Kano.
Abdullahi, who gave the names of the rescued persons as Baba Azare and Ibrahim Bakoro, both from Tsamiya Babba area of the state, said that the incident occurred on Sunday evening.
“We received a distress call from one Tasi’u Abubakar at about 06:26 pm. and we sent our fire men and rescue team to the scene at about 6:34 pm.,” he said.
Abdullahi added that the uncompleted premises of about 200×100 feet used as engine oil recycling plant reservoir, containing about 10,000 litres and a tanker, with registration number: DJW 111 XA were razed by the fire.
He said that one of the victims sustained slight injuries while trying to flee from the fire.
Meanwhile, the spokesman said the service also received a distress call from one Abdullahi Abba that an accident occurred at Maiduguri road, Daurawa quarters in Tarauni Local Government Area of the state.
“We sent our rescue team to the scene shortly after we received the call.
“A Honda car, with registration number: NSR 291 AW hit street light Stoll, with a 35-year-old man badly affected,” he said.
Abdullahi said that the victim was immediately conveyed to Murtala Muhammad Special Hospital for medical attention and was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
He said that the corpse of the victim had been handed over to ASP Bala Muhammad of Kofar Wambai police division. (NAN)
