Residents of Hayin Da’en in Hotoro area of Kano state have lamented on the damages caused by motorists diverting through their quarter due to the ongoing construction of the multibillion Naira Muhammadu Buhari flyover bridge by the Kano Government.
Daily News 24 reports that both Rickshaws, Bikes, private and commercial Cars and Trucks drive through the communities to access Wudil Road and Hotoro respectively.
A site visit by Daily News 24 revealed that motorist has caused havoc on roads, cesspits, and casualties in the area.
In an interview with some of the residents of Hayin Da’en, they commended efforts of the government at constructing the bridge but however narrate the ordeal caused by the diverting vehicles.
One of them, Safiya Bashir said: “Our streets and cesspits are damaged by motorists, few days back, a tricycle man tried fighting my husband over this.”
She added that “my husband was trying to block the road when the tricycle man insisted he must pass, so words of mouth were exchanged which resulted in them going to the police station”.
Aisha Muhammad also expressed her unhappiness about the current situation, complained that “My son was hit by a tricycle rider at the frontage of our house.”
“Some areas have barricaded their street, but we didn’t due to the other inhabitants in street have accepted”.
The residents urged the state government to intervene as number of accidents cannot be ascertained.
The Kano government had earmarked N9 billion for the building of the three-level interchange road to be named after President Muhammadu Buhari.
The interchange, which comprises, a flyover, a bridge and an underpass, according to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje is “first of its kind in Africa.”
