The Chief Imam of Ore Olohun Mosque, Olunlade Ilorin, Alhaji Fatahi Jimoh, has admonished traders not to take advantage of Ramadan fasting to inflate the prices of goods in the markets.
Jimoh gave the advice in Ilorin on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He noted that most traders and business owners in the country take advantage of Ramadan to place high prices on their goods and products to make excess profit.

“Ramadan is knocking at the door. Don’t take advantage of it to sell at high prices to the public. Fear Allah, be sincere and considerate with your business.
“It is a norm in Nigeria that when Ramadan approaches, prices of goods will increase. The traders are fond of stylishly increasing the prices of their goods.
“It is not good to take negative advantage of the Ramadan season. Traders need to erase that mentality and have a change of attitude.
“Stop inflicting pain on the public all in the name of the business. Sell at the normal price and stop being too desperate,” Jimoh said.
The cleric also advised Muslims to use the month of Ramadan to pray for the country.
He said that the security situation in the country needed special attention and therefore urged Muslims to intercede on the security and economic situation in the country.
The Chief Imam also urged Muslims to give arms to the poor during the Holy month.
“Be a cheerful giver. Give out foodstuff, money, clothes, and every other necessary item to the needy to receive Allah’s blessing,” Jimoh said. (NAN)
