The Kano/Jigawa command of the Nigerian Customs service has generated over 14.016 billion naira between January to April 2022, as against what was obtainable during the period last year.
The area comptroller of the command, Muhammad Umar made this known while addressing journalists in a press briefing, stating that the recent revenue generated represents a 44.9% increase from the seizures made within the first four months of 2022.
‘’This feat wouldn’t have been possible without the hardworking officers and men on the field who have dedicated themselves to duty and were ready to plug revenue leakages.’’ He said.

The comptroller noted that the most recently seized items included 7 cartons of tramadol hydrochloride of 225 milligram containing 34,000 sachets and 535 packs of 2kg Cikabrin, adding that other items ranging from 1,593 50kg bags of rice, foreign soaps, spaghetti, second hand drugs were seized with a duty paying value of N1,966,115,027.15.
He added that ‘’the items seized were found to be illegally imported into the country which contravenes the Customs and Excise Management Act CAP C45 of the law of the federal republic of Nigeria 2004, as amended.
‘’The illicit drugs will be handed over to the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). I wish to sound a note of warning to smugglers to desist from the act of smuggling or they will soon meet their waterloo.’’ He reiterated.
He also emphasized the importance of genuine businessmen exploring opportunities in the Kano/Jigawa while doing business, stating that the area command is ready and willing to collaborate with stakeholders to provide enabling environment for business to thrive in the interest if trade facilitation.
