Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has approved the suspension of the state’s Water Board General Manager, Alhaji Magaji Abubakar, with immediate effect.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Director-General, Press Affairs to the governor, Alhaji Ismaila Misili, on Wednesday in Gombe.

According to him, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abubakar Njodi, announced the suspension following alleged negligence to duty by the general manager.

The government said the dereliction of duty had led to rampant water pipe leakages as witnessed by the governor during his inspection visits of some project sites in the state capital on Tuesday.

He said the general manager had been directed to handover affairs of the office to the most senior COREN registered engineer in the agency to oversee its affairs until further notice.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the governor recently approved N11.491 billion contract for the rehabilitation, upgrade and expansion of Gombe regional water scheme. (NAN)
