Former Arsenal head coach, Arsene Wenger, has revealed the “problem” Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has with midfielder, Thiago, at Anfield.
Liverpool signed Thiago from Bayern Munich last summer for £20million.
Thiago, who is one of the best midfielders in Europe, was expected to shine at Anfield but the 29-year-old has endured an underwhelming first season in the English Premier League so far.
Wenger believes Liverpool are not aggressive in the midfield like before after Klopp added Thiago, a technical player in his squad.
“Thiago, for me, shows the typical problem of a manager,” Wenger told beIN Sports on Tuesday night as Liverpool defeated RB Leipzig 2-0 in the Champions League round of 16 first-leg tie in Hungary.
“Liverpool were very hungry and aggressive in midfield. As a manager, you think, “now I want to make the team better and I will get a technical player”.
“When you get a technical player, you lose the aggression in midfield and you destroy a little bit of the strength of Liverpool.
“They have certainly less capacity today to win the ball back and they suffer a little bit more. So sometimes when you want to improve the team, you take something away from the team.”
