Dangawa village in Warawa Local Government Area of Kano state is in dire need of potable drinking water as they rely on sources of water which is not safe for consumption.

After a heavy downpour of rain, 14-year-old Furera Ismail, a resident of Dangawa Village, goes to a nearby pond to fetch water for her family.

While speaking with Daily News24, she says “We drink this water because for us to get a good source of water, we have to trek a long distance.

“As you can see, the handpump in the community has been out of us for a long time and whenever there is rain, we take advantage of this water, rather than trekking long distances for water.”

“I pray that the government will construct a well for us in this village so that we can have clean water.” She told this reporter.

Contaminated water is linked to the transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), inadequate, or inappropriately managed water and sanitation services expose individuals to preventable health risks.
