Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) under the Nigerian army say they have rescued three of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
Musa Danmadam, the defence media operations director, stated this during a media briefing on military operations in Borno and Yobe on Thursday.
On April 14, 2014, insurgents attacked the Government Girls’ Secondary School (GGSS) in Chibok, Borno, abducting over 200 schoolgirls.
Jinkai Yama, Falmata Lawal, and Asabe Ali, the rescued schoolgirls, were numbered 20, 3, and 12 on the list of abducted Chibok girls.
Danmadam stated that the girls, along with their children and 19 other abductees, were rescued in various locations.
He also stated that the troops killed 52 suspected Boko Haram terrorists and 14 Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.
“Two unexploded grenades, 12 AK47 rifles, 3 FN rifles, 5 AK47 magazines, one automatic grenade launcher, one hand grenade, one AP mine, 86 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one motorcycle, 16 bows and arrows, seven bicycles, and ten mobile phones were recovered by the troops,” he said.
The defence director also revealed the arrest of Abatcha Bukar, a suspected foreign logistic supplier and arms dealer to the insurgents, who was armed with various injections, two automated teller machine (ATM) cards, and N294,520.00.
Danmadam noted that in a recent operation, the OPHK’s land and air components delivered a fatal blow to the terrorists by bombarding their hideouts on September 3.
According to him, feedback revealed that over 200 terrorists, including five high-profile commanders, were neutralized.
He went on to say that 556 suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists and their families, including 115 adult males, 189 females, and 252 children, surrendered to troops in various locations.
He stated that the troops turned over suspects and recovered items to the proper authorities.
