Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), says that adopting “native solutions’’ will go a long way in curbing rape cases and other vices.

Runsewe made the revelation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday.

He stated that anyone found guilty of vices such as rape, advance fee fraud, or other related crimes should be taken to his or her family house and forced to dance in front of the village square.

“We must use a local and indigenous approach to combat rape, advance fee fraud, and other vices.”

“Many of our people travel abroad, return, and bring a bad name to us because of their crimes, yet they return to celebrate and promote these vices.”

“So, I believe that starting now, when someone commits a crime, the person should be taken close to the family house.” Allow them to dance in the village square.

“I’m telling you, you’ll be surprised that no one will commit a crime.”

According to Runsewe, the main reason for the continuation of crime was that someone who committed a crime would get bail from a prominent member of society.

“Let us put it this way: both the perpetrator of the crime and the man seeking bail should be imprisoned.” Nobody will go again, as you will see.

“Once they realize they can’t buy off the security agents on issues like these,” Runsewe predicted, “I can assure you that a lot of changes are on the way.” (NAN)
