Group distributes school materials to pupils in fight against drug abuse in Kano

The Chief Executive Officer of Youth Against Drug Abuse, (YADAF), Hajiya Fatima Bature has distributed books, bags, writing materials and mathematical sets to primary school pupils as a way of discouraging drug abuse and encouraging education.

The event tagged “Back to School Project” took place in Kano on Sunday where 347 pupils benefitted from the gesture.

Delivering her address at the maiden launching of the project, the CEO of YADAF, called on the pupils to stay away from drugs and strive to get educated, adding that without education there is no future for them.

“What we do in YADAF is to identify potential drug users, “out of school” children, dropouts, from our immediate environment and enrols them into formal schools to acquire sound education and reduce their exposure to chances if drug use” she stated.

She called for support and partnership of relevant state government agencies that include the Ministry of Education, SUBEB, primary and secondary schools Management Boards.

Further more she called on businessmen, industrialists and entrepreneurs to be part of the project by sponsoring a child or two back to school and be part of training drug users to acquire skills at YADAF skills acquisition centres.

In his speech at the event, the Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero praised her efforts in the fight against drug abuse by encouraging education at all levels. He called on other people to emulate her adding that the Kano Emirate will continue to support her initiatives.
