The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have stated that they have no intention of disrupting elections in Igboland in 2023.

Emma Powerful, the group’s media and publicity secretary, told DAILY POST in a press statement that any information circulating about alleged plans to disrupt elections in Igboland in 2023 is false.

The group instead accused the federal government of masterminding insecurity in the South East in order to instill fear and accuse IPOB of their actions.

A video of a breakaway member of IPOB, Mr Simon Ekpa, recently surfaced on the internet, in which he stated that the group would not allow any election to take place in Biafraland.

“The IPOB leadership has for the umpteenth time stated unequivocally that part of our modus operandi in our agitation for freedom has never been, is not, and will not be violent agitation,” Powerful said in a press release on behalf of IPOB.

“This explains our consistent call for the UN to hold a referendum in Biafran territory to allow the Biafran people to decide their fate.” To that end, IPOB will not encourage or sponsor anyone or group to disrupt Nigeria’s shambolic selection process known as elections.

“IPOB has repeatedly stated that we have no interest in and cannot legitimize the anomaly known as election in Nigeria.” We are a focused, determined, and disciplined freedom fighting movement, not political thugs, and IPOB is devoted to the cause of liberating our people from subjugation, modern-day slavery, and Neo-colonialism, and will not be distracted from this very goal.”

“IPOB is not interested and will never become involved in any Nigerian fraudulent pre-election or post-election issues,” the group continued. Our job is to use the gospel of truth that our leader has already delivered to open the eyes of the blind.

“Whoever sponsors any group or gang and tags them IPOB is on his or her own. For those who cannot hear, IPOB is one indivisible family with a single central command and leadership.

“If the IPOB leadership decides to make further statements on the upcoming Nigeria selection process known as election, we will do so through our official channels.”
