A nine-year-old Junior Secondary School student, Christiana Matthew who was abducted by gunmen who killed her father in Jos, last week has regained freedom, five days after the incident.
Daily Trust reports that Christina’s father, Matthew Ojo, who sells and repairs Android phones at the Bukuru market in Jos South local government area of Plateau State was killed while trying to prevent the gunmen from kidnapping his daughter.
Family sources told our correspondent that the nine-year-old was picked up around the Kaduna – Abuja highway early Sunday but could not confirm if ransom had been paid for her release.
Daily Trust reports that Christina Mathew was abducted last Tuesday at about 8pm at her family residence in Kwata, near Trade Center in Jos South LGA. Her father, Mathew Ojo was killed in the process.
The kidnappers had later reached out to the family demanding a ransom of N50 million in exchange for Christina.
However, while confirming the release of the nine-year-old, the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo said the girl has been reunited with her family while the investigation over the killing of her father and her abduction was ongoing.
The police also did not say if ransom was paid for Christina’s release.
