The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi Council, on Thursday honoured Gov. Yahaya Bello with a prestigious award for his unique infrastructural development strides.

Mr Momoh Jimoh, the council Chairman, who conferred the award on the governor during the 2022 NUJ Press Week in Lokoja, said “Bello has indeed done very well”.

Jimoh said with reality on ground about the administration of the governor in the last seven years it would be uncalled for journalists to allow themselves to be used against him.

Presenting the award to Bello, the NUJ chairman however urged the governor to continue with the good works for the benefit of citizens and residents of Kogi.

“We did not just decide to celebrate you Sir, but have seen with our eyes what you have done for the state when as a team, we embarked on a tour of public projects in education and health round the state.

“We visited state-owned universities; we visited CUSTECH and the GYB Model Schools, and the members of the union were all very impressed with what we saw in terms of infrastructure.

“We also visited Kogi State Specialist Hospital, where we saw the impact your administration has made in terms of infrastructure especially the remodeling of the hospital, the administrative block and other units.

“What fascinated the NUJ executives and its members is the state of the art reference hospital in Okene and the General Hospital in Gegu – projects initiated by the GYB administration in its second term,” he said.

He advised the governor to be focused and committed in serving the people of Kogi to the best of his ability as posterity, he said, would vindicate him.

Jimoh also urged journalists not to allow themselves to be used by unscrupulous politicians who may be out to run down the government of Kogi for whatever reasons in this period of electioneering.

Receiving the award, Bello thanked the NUJ and described the award as a “stimulus” for him to do more for the people of Kogi who elected him to serve them.
