The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) of support on War Against Drugs Abuse (WADA).
The NSCDC Commandant Lagos State, Mr Okoro Eweka, gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.
Eweka said that the corps would not relent in the fight against illicit drugs in the country.
He warned Nigerians who are collaborators with foreigners, especially Ghanaians, to desist from such Illinois act.
Eweka noted that the Ghana brand of Cannibis Sativa, popularly known as ‘loud’ must be prevented from coming into the country.
He said: “Betweeen January and October, the command, has busted two boats on high sea beside Ibeshe waters loaded with Cannabis Sativa by Ghanaians.
“The corps believed that no foreigner would convey such illicit drugs into the country without insiders.
“NSCDC, therefore, is warning such collaborators to desist from the act or face the law.
“I want everyone to know that the nine Ghanians arrested and paraded for similar offence in February by the command had been diligently prosecuted by the NDLEA and sentenced to jail on October 14.
“On Oct. 20, the command also busted a Cotonou boat conveying 101 bags of Cannibis Sativa by Ghanaians on Ibeshe waters though the perpetrators jumped into the sea on sighting us.
“But the bags had been handed over to the NDLEA for destruction.”
He said the officers of the corps were professionally groomed to ensure the security of lives and property, especially critical infrastructure and national assets. NAN
