In the early hours of Saturday, gunmen attacked the Isuofia community of Aguata Local Government Area, where Anambra State Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo is from.
According to sources, two soldiers and four of the attacking hoodlums were killed in a gun battle between the gunmen and soldiers stationed in the community.
According to a source, the hoodlums attacked the soldiers at an army checkpoint and killed two of them before the army personnel chased them down and killed four of the attackers.
The incident was confirmed by the Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tochukwu Ikenga, and the state’s Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, in a statement.
Ikenga stated that police officers had been dispatched to the scene and that normalcy had been restored in the area, while Nwosu urged Indigenes to notify security officials if they observed security breaches.
“A gang of gunmen attacked the Nigerian Army checkpoint at Afor-Uzo Junction, Isuofia, this morning,” Nwosu said. The hoodlums, unfortunately, met their Waterloo.
“In a fierce exchange of shootings, our gallant and alert security agents who gave them a hot chase immediately returned fire and neutralised four of the gang members.” Their Toyota Avenza, from which the deadly operation was launched, was recovered.”
