A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has disqualified the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Tonye Cole, over dual citizenship and non compliance to electoral act by the party.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state had approached the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission not to recognize Cole as the governorship candidate of APC for alleged dual citizenship.

The PDP also said that the delegates election through which Cole emerged the APC candidate did not follow due process.

The trial judge, Justice, Emmanuel Obile in his judgment agreed with the PDP that Cole, who has dual citizenship is not eligible to contest governorship position and that the APC primary that brought him in was not monitored by INEC.
