The Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development has recorded 102 cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and social cases from January to date.

The Commissioner,  Mrs Rebecca Sambo, said this on Friday while addressing newsmen to commemorate the 2022 16 days activism against GBV.

Sambo who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Hassana Ayika,decried the rise in GBVs gender based violence, women and girl child trafficking and child abandonment and called for synergy to curb the menace .

She said the theme for this year’s Activism entitled ” Unite! Activism to end violence against women and girls,” was very apt as it requires synergy from all stakeholders to bring to the barest the nefarious act.

Sambo called on the various security agencies involved to ensure that they do not stall cases of GBV by ensuring that the survivors get justice .

She said the aim of the 16 days activism campaign asides it’s focus on raising awareness on GBV also calls for the implementation of available policies and laws to curb the impunity of GBV.

Sambo commended the Plateau Gov. Simon Lalong for his gender friendly policies and the for establishment of a gender and Equal opportunity Commission.

She further thanked the governor for his approval of N450, million naira as counterpart funding for Plateau for the Nigeria for Women Project, which is a World Bank Funded project.

The commissioner also commended the Wife of the governor, Mrs Regina Lalong for her collaboration with the ministry and her unflinching support to the vulnerable through her pet project which is the SWITCH foundation.

Sambo commended the various international donor bodies and corporate organisation s for patterning with the ministry to uplift the standard of women on the Plateau.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 16 days activism campaign commenced on Nov.25 with a road walk, press briefing and various activities scheduled to hold within the 16 days period which would round off on Dec. 10.
