Casemiro admits that he and his teammates are “sad” to see Cristiano Ronaldo leave Manchester United, but he believes the forward knows what is best for his career.
Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United was announced after club football had been halted for the ongoing World Cup. Casemiro revealed ahead of Brazil’s second group match against Switzerland that, while he hadn’t spoken with Ronaldo, he was sad to see him go and wished him all the best in his future endeavors.
“I haven’t exchanged any messages with him, but Cristiano Ronaldo is a veteran player who knows what’s best for his career,” Casemiro explained. “Of course, we’re disappointed that a player like him is leaving because he’s one of the best players of all time.” I wish him the best of luck in his football career, except when he plays against me, but I wish him the best of luck.”
Ronaldo and Casemiro both had strong starts in Qatar. Ronaldo scored in Portugal’s 3-2 World Cup victory over Ghana, while Casemiro played the entire 90 minutes in Brazil’s opening day victory over Serbia.
On Monday, Ronaldo will lead Portugal against Uruguay in their second group match, while Casemiro and Brazil face Switzerland.
