Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State has advised Muslims to reflect the virtues of the glorious Qur’an in their daily life.
The governor gave the advice on Friday at the closing ceremony of 32nd Qur’anic Recitation Competition held at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi.
Bagudu, who was represented by Alhaji Hassan Muhammad-Shalla, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, said: “My advice to reciters as well as entire Muslim ummah is to reflect the virtues of the Glorious Qur’an in their daily life.
“I also want to admonish youths to live a life in line with the commandments of the Divine Scriptures to pave way for good conduct, this will go a long way in addressing the menace of moral decadence bedeviling the society.
“I am happy that Qur’anic recitation competition has galvanised both males and females to memorise the Glorious Book and improve their mental ability and capability.”
The governor acknowledged the previous performance of reciters from Kebbi State who excelled at both national and international levels, urging the state contingent for the forthcoming competition in Zamfara to keep the spirit alive.
He commended traditional rulers, religious leaders as well as local government chairmen for their support to Qur’anic recitation in their localities and sustained prayers for peace and security of the nation.
The governor noted with satisfaction that his administration had improved Arabic Secondary Schools and established new ones in the state, assuring that Islamiyya Schools would continue to receive the needed attention to teach both Islamic and formal education.
The acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Alhaji Abubakar Nayelwa and Chairman of the competition, who is also the Waziri of Gwandu, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, expressed appreciation to Bagudu for his consistent, compassionate, moral and financial support to stage the Qur’anic recitation competition annually.
This, according to them, had led to successes recorded by representatives of the state at national and international levels.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Malam Kabiru Sani from Yauri Emirate and Malama Hauwa’u Bala-Rabi’u from Gwandu Emirate are to represent Kebbi State at the National Qur’an Recitation Competition in Zamfara scheduled for Dec. 16.
NAN also reports that the duo grabbed first position in male and female categories of memorisation of 60 Hizb and Tafsir of the Glorious Qur’an respectively.
Kabiru was turbaned as winner of the year “Gwanin/Gwarzon Shekara” while Hauwa’u was similarly decorated with robes as winner of the year “Gwana/Gwarzuwar Shekara”.
Bagudu splashed each of the winners with a 206 Peugeot Saloon Car in addition to cash donation. (NAN)
