The Zamfara State First Lady, Aisha Bello Muhammad and Medicines Sans Frontiers (MSF) have organised a Two-day training for Health Workers in the state on Gender Based Violence (GBV).
The training is part of the First Lady’s commitments towards eradication of GBV, Domestic Violence as well as promoting gender equality in the state.
The training has 51 participants who were drawned from various health facilities in the 14 Local Government Areas of the state aimed at strengthening the fight against GBV.
The training was also aimed at creation of awareness especially at grassroots about the GBV and its negative impact in the society.
Speaking while declaring the training open in Gusau on Saturday.
Speaking at the opening of the training session in Gusau on Saturday, the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Health, Dr Habibu Yelwa commended the First Lady and MSF for organising the training.
Dr Yelwa urged the participants to pay keen interest to the training in order to benefit from various lectures and presentations.
He assured continued support of the ministry of health to the office of the First Lady in the fight against GBV and other health related prograrammes.
The Project Coordinator, MSF, Mr Spain Gerald Wambowa thanked the First Lady for the collaboration.
Wambowa said that the aim of the training is to share the basic knowledge and experience about GBV and to create more awareness to the participants.
Mr Richard Mathela Medical Coordinator, MSF appreciate the effort of the First Lady and MSF for organising the training.
He called for more collaboration with other stakeholders in the fight against the ugly act.
The training of health workers as one of the major stakeholders in the fight against GBV is timely and welcome development.
“I therefore commend the First Lady in this regard”, he said.
