House of Representatives Majority Leader Alhassan Ado Doguwa has been remanded in prison on Wednesday, pending the outcome of his bail application.
Alhassan Doguwa is standing trial on several offenses that include, criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, unlawful possession of firearm, mischief and public disturbance.
Senior Magistrate, Ibrahim Mansur Yola remanded the defendant till March 7th, 2023 for hearing of the bail application.
Recall that the Kano state police command had arrested Honorable Alhassan Ado Garba Doguwa, for his alleged involvement in the gruesome murder of three persons, causing grievous injury to eight persons in Tudun Wada LGA of Kano state on the 26th February 2023 while the collation of election results was ongoing.
During the collation of election results, an alleged viral video of some victims with suspected gunshots surfaced on Social Media, and the Commissioner of Police in charge of the 2023 General Election in Kano State, CP Muhammad Yakubu directed the Kano State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to carry out a thorough investigation.
Following the investigation, on 27th February 2023, the Department extended a formal invitation to Honorable Alhassan Ado Garba Doguwa, a member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency for his alleged complicity in the incident and sequel to his refusal to honour the invitation, the activated a motion that led to his arrest.
He was subsequently arrested by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Bompai Kano at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano.
The Kano state police command while speaking through Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in a press statement, said an investigation is ongoing and the suspects arrested will soon be charged to court for prosecution, as efforts to get others at large are being intensified.
“While the Commissioner of Police appreciates the good people of Kano State for their peaceful conduct in maintaining law and order during the concluded Presidential and National Assembly Elections and its aftermath, the Command has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of Kano residents. Accordingly, the CP has demonstrated his willingness to tame any subversive elements or actors no matter how highly placed they were in Kano state.” Said Kiyawa.
