Ryan Reynolds’ inimitable deadpan wit has only gotten better with age. And the actor’s comedically dysfunctional relationship with his co-stars, particularly Wesley Snipes and Hugh Jackman, has improved over time. Reynolds and Jackman’s story is well-known, but when it comes to the deadly vampire slayer, Reynolds’ strained relationship with his Blade: Trinity co-star has been a taboo subject.
Reynolds, on the other hand, is still disappointed that he never got to break the formidable ice with Wesley Snipes. And it must have irritated an actor as universally likable as Deadpool’s star to have someone actively dislike him for trying to make people laugh on set. It was almost as if Snipes was the one who got away for Ryan Reynolds.

“I only met Blade, and he is a method actor. Say what you want about that style of acting, I have the utmost respect for whatever it takes to get through this process,” Reynolds remarked about his experience with Wesley Snipes while shooting Blade: Trinity.
Ryan Reynolds’ portrayal of his on- and off-screen encounters with Wesley Snipes was borderline terrifying, if not downright terrifying. And it wasn’t just Reynolds who tried to break Snipes’ character. Patton Oswalt, Natasha Lyonne, and other actors and comedians were in attendance. And, of course, they all failed.
When the Red Notice actor stated that Snipes dislikes him, it was not in vain. It was the result of numerous experiments carried out on the sets of Blade: Trinity. Reynolds later revealed in an interview that a line he delivered off-script (as part of his realization that Snipes actually despised him) made it into the film’s final cut.
“There’s a moment in the movie where I look up at Jessica and I swear to God, I didn’t even know the cameras were rolling anymore and I say, ‘He hates me, doesn’t he?’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah.’ I’m just saying this about my relationship as Ryan Reynolds to this guy, and it works. The ad-libs are just born of that.”
Later, allegations that Snipes attempted to strangle director David S. Goyer harmed the actor’s reputation in the industry. He was given the opportunity to clear the air about the alleged rumors in an interview with The Guardian, and he stated, “Let me tell you one thing. You probably wouldn’t be talking to me right now if I had tried to strangle David Goyer. I guarantee a black man with muscles strangling a movie director will go to jail.”
Marvel Studios has acquired the rights to the Blade IP for a reboot starring Mahershala Ali. Since its development was announced in 2019, the project has consistently hit roadblocks. Bassam Tariq recently stepped down as director, and Yann Demange has taken his place. Michael Starrbury will pen the new script after Stacy Osei-script Kuffour’s was rejected by the studio and its lead due to creative differences.
