Troops of Operation Hadarin Daji in Zamfara State have foiled an attack by armed bandits on Anka town, the headquarters of the Anka Local Government Area, and killed one bandit on Monday (today).

Channels Television reports that the troops, who acted on an intelligence report about the terrorists’ move to attack the town, engaged the bandits in a gun duel that lasted for several hours.

Sources told Channels TV that the troops conducted a fighting patrol to the bandits’ route at Tungar Mai-Rakuma village in Anka LGA, and a gun battle ensued.

However, the troops overpowered the bandits and forced them to retreat, during which one bandit was killed and 1 motorcycle, 1 AK-47, and a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered.

“After the encounter, one bandit was neutralized, and items recovered include 1 AK-47, 1 motorcycle, and quantity of 7.62mm special rounds; other bandits escaped with gunshot wounds,” a military source said.

The troops have continued to dominate the general area in order to capture, kill, and deny the bandits freedom of operation.
